When did ethnic "diversity" become a mantra? When did it become a value, an end in itself, something to be achieved and maintained -- even at the expense of ability and merit? The job of a university isn't to promote diversity on campus -- it's to promote learning. And if the most qualified, highest-achieving students happen to be disproportionately from certain groups -- well, so be it. So what if, 20 years from now, most of America's doctors, scientists and engineers are of Asian descent? Who cares, as long as they're the best people for the job?
