Truthers to the Left of Me, Truthers to the Right

by Michelle Malkin

Did you know that Sarah Palin-haters are still trying to prove she didn't give birth to her youngest son, Trig? These tinfoil hat-wearers are as obnoxious and unhinged as the 9/11 Truth cultists who insist that America engineered the jihadi attacks on itself. The presidential campaign may be over, but there's no expiration date on Palin Derangement Syndrome.

Jack Bogdanski, a law professor at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, stirred up Trig Trutherism again this week with a ...

Great people have minds which think of lofy ideals, average people discuss, debate, and speak about those lofty ideals, small minded people simply talk about other people.

Michelle Malkin says: I believe Trig was born to Sarah Palin. I believe Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. I believe fire can melt steel and that bin Laden's jihadi crew — not Bush and Cheney — perpetrated mass murder on 9/11. What kind of kooky conspiracist does that make me? I am with you Michelle Malkin.

While I agree there is a great deal of frivolity over both issues, there is a distinct difference about them. Trig Palin's parentage has nothing to do with the legal qualifications of Sarah Palin to be President or Vice-president. In Obama's case, should it prove true (for whatever reason) that he was not a natural born citizen according to the Constitution, then he is Constitutionally ineligible for the office - period (the Presidency going to Joe Biden who then would nominate whomever he pleases as Vice-president). The hospital in Hawaii that has his original birth certificate says they cannot release it without Obama's consent. It would only prove a few moments to sign a release and send it. As an aside, the Trig Palin issue gained national attention form the major media and elsewhere without one shred of proof. Even the question of John McCain's eligibility was raised in the media due to the fact that he was born on a military base in Panama (to American parents and there is a specific law that dependents of military personnel born overseas are de facto natural born citizens). Nary a peep has been heard on questions of Obama's eligibility.

I remember reading somewhere that the reason a psychotic cannot be talked out of his delusions is that every attempt is absorbed into the delusion and given a role in it. If a deluded individual believes that there is a gorilla in the corner, and you walk into the corner and tell him that the gorilla doesn't exist as you have just walked through the space that the psychotic says he (the gorilla) is occupying, the psychotic will tell you that the gorilla has the power to suspend his corporeal reality and will come back as soon as you vacate the space that he occupies. The "Truthers" that Ms. Malkin speaks about here are so similar to those psychotics that one does not need to look much farther for insanity. My only question about the birth certificate of Obama is: Why doesn't he just produce it and be done with it?
