To Die for NAFTA

This piece is dishonest. It is titled "To Die for NAFTA", then is reviews a number of trade issues that have nothing to do with NAFTA. If the Pat is not dishonest, he is surely ill informed (probably both). NAFTA stands for North American Free Trade Agreement. All his examples are non-North American examples. And he sites stats that say that during Bill Clinton's presidency 5 times as many jobs per month were created compared to George Bush. I guess he is trying to say that somewhere between Clinton a Bush, NAFTA became a bad idea—a weak argument—let's not forget there was a free trade agreement with Canada long before Clinton—NAFTA added Mexico. It stuff like this that makes Buchanan difficult to swallow for many people: the truth is the Lord Salisbury quote applies to Pat more than to the trade ideas he attacks.
