Time for Debate on Health Care

by Joseph Farah

If America is not careful, soon it could see one-seventh of its gross domestic product nationalized — the biggest step toward socialism this country ever has taken.

That's what will happen if Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton is elected president and the Democrats control the Congress. (Heck, it might even happen if John McCain is elected.)

The consequences of placing the nation's health care system under the control of the federal government cannot be overstated. It will be ...

"Someday you or someone you love will be seeking permission of a government bureaucrat to have a lifesaving procedure. Someday you or someone you love will have to wait for that surgery. Someday you or someone you love may be told: 'You're just not a good candidate for that treatment.'" Ummm, well, so far that's exactly what privatized health care is doing to Americans, by the millions. Just replace "government bureaucrat" with "HMO provider". I'd trust a guy doing a hard day's work sooner than I would the fat cat swine policies of these criminal providers, whose only goal is to NOT fork out any money to you, under any and all circumstances. Does Joeseph Farah live in a cave? I think that he kind of does. For the affluent, this isn't an issue. For the rest of us, more and more of us every day thanks to W's grand plan for bankrupting the country on an illegal war and cutting slack for the richest Americans while completely ignoring the middle/working classes and below, most of us find ourselves in hospitals hearing those exact phrases that Mr. Farah seems to think is just some abstract nightmare not experienced by any of us. Mr. Farah should do a bit of research on socialized health care available to citizens of just about every other Western Democracy. They like it. Sure there exists a minority that decries those systems, like anything else, but what the UK, Canada and France have all are far and above what the U.S. has to offer its ailing population. The reason the "tide" is against Mr. Farah's idea is because we've been trying it for decades and it has done nothing but erode. It's easy just to write off the attitude of the country as a result of just how "stupid" we all are, according to Mr. Farah, but I think Americans see a broken system and want it fixed. Americans look to these other countries that do their duty by their citizens and offer them the human right to health care. Americans want, and deserve that as well. Thanks, -GA

Hi Joe You have presented a very good defense of your observation that the tide is coming in. You have even stated that it is going to be very tough to try to stop it. Consequently, you yourself, haven't offered any advice. How far out in the ocean did the tide start? Social Security? Medicare? Medicaid? Company Health benefits in lieu of payraises? The increasing consumer demand for insurance rather than pay as you go? It appears that every ship was coming in on the evening tide. I suggest that we be realistic about this and instead of bemoaning it, try to make sure it raises all ships like rising tides are naturally supposed to do. There are a lot of goods that come in on the evening tide.
