It's amazing how far people will go to try to police and change the behavior of others. All in the name of "health." You know it isn't really about concern for someone else's health as it is disdain that someone else makes different choices and doesn't want to join the religion of healthism, fitnessism or environmentalism. As a nonreligious person, I see many of my "friends" doing this. The fear of hell has been replaced with the pathalogical fear of carbs, fats, and global warming.
Now smoking is a big issue for me since I would have to seclude myself from the rest of the world if it were done everywhere. I have COPD from poorly-treated asthma, and smoke is the trigger that (after a painful cascade of events) will send me to the hospital. But I think people should smoke if they want to without having to pay enormous taxes for it. Just not where others will be harmed. It's sort of an issue of "Your right to smoke anywhere ends at my right to not suffer from your smoke" I guess.
Love your writing and opinions.
