Sir;... First of all.... Who would have expected such wisdom from Hemingway...No wonder the G-men were following him...And Keynes was wrong...There is no possible way to destroy capitalism; and no one should even try... It should be limited, as any social evil, but no one can be prevented from selling dear what they value but little... So some prostitution and capitalism will always be around...It is not even capital that should be attacked...If it is capital in small hands it should be left alone, because that is the labor or many life times...If it is capital turned to idle wealth, it should be rooted out, with fire and sword, and when captured, returned to the common wealth...It is stupid for the people to leave wealth untaxed while factories are left to rot, and the public capital of infrastructure is left in ruin...It is stupid to let the wealthy run the society, to put their personal benefit before the nation's benefit, to determine foreign policy and trade on their own, and without reference to the common good, or commonwealth....Capital, profits, and wealth ought to support the nation...The idea that the nation must support wealth is stupid...And as stupid is the notion that the society, and government must support the economy....The economy must support all...Can it??? Can our economy support all when so much of it has been exported beyond the reach of the tax man??? It is no great crime for people of invention or initiative to have wealth... It is crazy to expect that if left to grow generation after generation, that wealth built on ability will not become a disability to a whole nation... Those people who like to think of property and property rights as absolute have no conception of the thing...Property has never been an absolute right for people, or for nations; but each is only entitled to that which they can hold...The national grip on property is endangered by the private grip on property... The rich demand wars, and start wars with their behavior, but it is the poor who fight those wars and pay for those wars...Wars which make the people poor make the rich rich...Taxes which make the poor poor, make the rich rich...Inequality or rights and political power make the poor poor and the rich rich...It is wealth, and treasure which so many crave out of the pain of poverty, like a drug, that must be attacked...Let the rich build it up, and let the nation drain it off... Better a rich nation than a handful of rich in a nation of poor... Wealth once supported this nation...It must do so again... Tax the rich; because they are the last people with any thing, and the last who can pay...It was the great rich of Germany who brought down their government... They owed taxes they would not pay, and Hindinburg; rather than supporting those who would tax them, and break up their large estates, instead brought Papen, and Hitler to power, and kicked Bruning out.....For the militarists, the large industialists, and the owners of great estates... For what??? Were not those large estates lost to the communists, and a war, and national independence and identity???.If Hindinburg could have seen though all the Feudal nonsense of a bygone age, and did what was right for the people, their German economy could have been saved, at least for a time... Taxing the rich is the only solution we have to the problems of capitalism...Every other path leads to ruin or war...Thanks...Sweeney
