"And no matter what pundits — yes, including me — write in newspapers or assert on cable TV, the voters in the end have their say." Even you--can you imagine that! Even the great Saunders couldn't sway those stupid voters. You love em when they go your way and you dis em when they don't. Isn't that what the great hot air machine is all about.

So Saunders, where were you with the "who knew" when W was selling this country down the tubes with all the phony baloney about Iraq and all the incompetence everywhere you look in that shipwreck he calls a government? Hiding out like a groundhog afraid of its shadow, that's where, in that dark dank place where all the phony journalists hang out.

Ma'am;... Who knew??? I knew... I just took some dirt, mixed it with wine, swallered it down, and felt just fine, and in that state declared my mind, and since I am so like all others I spoke the company line. Seriously... What the Greek said, that as children of Promethius we can all see the future, and only lose that ability when we begin to hope against hope- is true... Ma'am your society is blinded by hope, desparate in clinging to hope... The liberals want to believe their hope is true, and the reactionaries only hope the people will not mind them piling up more while everyone endures less... Was Iraq an act of wisdom, or an act of hope??? Did we fore see the consequences???? What about the financial meltdown??? Mr. Greenspan, the government farsee, could not see past his own ideals of market behavior... In so many instances government and media are acting as the blind leading the blind, brailing, feeling rather than reading the future in great and unmistakable signs.. I can't tell you what will happen in the next instance, but in gross, we have many examples of societies, like our own, on the edge of failure and destruction... In gross, it is easy to see what killed them, and specifically, what is killing us... We do not have enough justice, equality, opportunity, or democracy... We live in a tyranny of the past, and are guided by people long dead no more clear sighted than ourselves... We see what we want for the most part, and it blinds us to what is right, decent, intelligent, or enduring... We forget about national goals we can all celebrate the attainment of, and seek only near objects, large in our vision... So yes, one can say that while individually there is much to recommend Mr. Mccain, and little enough to recommend Mr. Obama; that the very desparation of the people which is the result of blindness at the top demands new, even untried leadership in the hope that it can be true leadership, as by a guide, or a pathfinder.... There is something beautiful in the foundation of this nation... It is not money, military or political power; but something that is as good as a cool glass of water on a hot day... It is the recognition that all people need justice to enjoy life... Thanks... Sweeney
