Professor Sowell, as a Democrat and civil rights lawyer, I fear no Republican more than a moderate conservative. My heart sank when Republican voters wised up and nominated John McCain. Michael Steele was a severe disappointment, as I had my liberal heart set on Haley Barbour. Now, I worry about Meghan McCain, who looks like a real prospect as a future leader of the "business conservatives," the true base of the GOP. The big fans of Palin, Coulter, and Limbaugh are your party's proletarian wing, similar to the Peronistas' "shirtless ones," augmented by a handful of bitter intellectuals like you and your protege on the U.S. Supreme Court. At election time, plutocrats consider all of you ditto heads their "useful idiots." I say keep up the good work, encouraging reactionaries to follow their hearts instead of their heads. With any luck at all, Sarah, Rush, Coultergeist, and you, Professor Sowell, can distill the GOP to a pure residue of greedy and stupid people whose nominees will not be electable.
