As I see it the President has only two choices: WIN or GET OUT. To get out is to tell the world we are no longer the most powerful nation on the planet. In fact then, it's the Islamic Terroists who are more powerful. They attacked us are we retalliated, but only so far.
We surrender and the world is lost as the barbarians spread their ideology. If anyone thinks that the Terrosists will remain in Afhganistan ther're nuts - they have no common sense, no foresight.

Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires, from Alexander the Great to the Russians in more recent times. It is not as much of a country as it is a place. It is very different from Iraq, which is a modern nation. The central government only controls Kabul and the surrounding area. No government has ever controlled more in the history of the country. Based on our own counterinsurgency textbooks it will take 700,000 troops, based on the geography and population size, to be effective. 700,000!!! And that is for five to ten years. That is what Obama is really looking at, and I hope he knows it. The original mission in Afghanistan was to root out Muslim insurgents. That mission has creped into nation building, as in Iraq, which is becoming successful. The problem is there is no nation to build in Afghanistan, and there never has been. George Will was right. Get out. Drop back to supporting the Government, and fly 100 predator drones over the country at all times to control the insurgents. We have only successfully defeated one Muslim insurgency in the last 100 years. That was in the Philippines, by Black Jack Pershing. Using Muslim beliefs he ordered all dead insurgents to be wrapped in pigskins and burned. The insurgency ended in thirty days. This country lacks the will to fight effectively, so get out before we have more dead heroes, and they really are heroes.

I never saw a President who can not make a decision about our soldiers at war. They are getting killed due to his inablilty to make a decision. I hope he picks to win instead of retreat and lose for that we put us in a very unsafe situation. My son is going to join the army because he believes in his country but my fear is Obama is making us look so weak the chances of injury or being killed has increased dramatically in the time period that he can not figure this out. Please ask him to put his medically and socialistic agenda on the back burner and keep us safe. He looks like a bulldozer for the unions and the mob along with his socialistic friends (Bill Ayers, Rev Wright and Bev Dohrn). The nobel peace price means nothing to me at this point. This was just another politcal move and Dick Morris has a good writing about the reason why???? The Europeans want us to be like them so their socialism will look good and America will finally join them. GOD Bless American for we will not be the land of the free if Obama keeps up his agenda.

As the candidate President Obama repeated over and over again for his political gain that he had the strategy for dealing with Afghanistan and he would get Osama bin Laden or so he Promised.

Now President Obama is the leader and nine months into his Presidency he is still going with the political polls to run his administration. After all it took 5 months to choose a dog so give it time it is only Americans getting killed while he tries to listen to everyone around the world tell him what He should do.

Of course he also has to keep his re-election chances in mind the entire time so let more soldiers dies while I decide which course to take.

In actually if the Generals report had not been leaked out we would not even know about it at this point as the WH has tried to keep any talk of war out of the news and the WH briefing.

Ever wonder Susan why a lot of people do not like the Democrat party? As an Independent I have always seen them as being only worried about domestic policy of more and ever more handouts to people undeserving, but, we have to keep them people voting for us to give them more handouts.

There is a easy way to end the Afghanistan war in less than 6 months, but, I am quite sure that President Obama will not even think about it because it would mean that we Win and the Terrorist lose.

An excellent summary of the President's dilemma.
Strong statements and apparent commitments made in the political arena now have to be delivered in the military arena. He must now do what he promised to do.
In my opinion, a more effective way of leading as Commander in Chief would be to confer with his civilian leaders for input, and in a more closed door fashion. Then, it might be even more effective to hike on over to the Pentagon and lead the group of military leaders as CIC, with that leadership team in place and get the strategy and plan in place.
Military strategy does not mix well with political "duck and run".
Take input, yes.
Provide balance, yes.
Then, make the decision get out of the way and let our committed military get the job done.
I thought that is what was done in March.
Our troops are painfully exposed at present.
We have put them in harm's way and are not backing them up with what they need to succeed.
There is no easy way out from where we are right now.
Make the hard call, Mr. President.
This is not community organizing in South Chicago.
It is war, and war is hell.
Stand in front of your troops and lead the way forward.
Soon.
