Sir;...Flu's fly, but the loss of markets is a terror no president can easily ignore... So what if many of us die???Some will survive to raise the banner of capital again... Disease as we know it may be a product of capital while every society looking for profit in every location cannot be bothered with public health...History can point to a single detail in the life of man as the most salient contributer to the rise of capital...It was another pandemic....The Black Death freed capital all over Europe that soon ended up in private hands, even while it gave labor an edge for a time...That was in the 1300s and all that follows can be laid at the feet of little rats, and large disease... What if, today, a new disease suddenly frees capital which we can then feed to the rich...Won't that keep them from forclosing on us??? Maybe the Swine Flu is a capitalist retirement plan so all those people denied social security, and robbed of their pensions, forced in increasing numbers to work until madness or death robs them from reality will not be a burden on profits......I don't know...I do not want to speculate...From the point of view of business, government simply cannot let a little thing like death, or the threat of death interfere with profit... We don't care for global warming, and that has the potential of wide spread famine, and world war... Why should a little thing like a pandemic get in the way of business??? Everyone has to put things in perspective...Our lives may be all we have, individually... Being is meaning, and nothing means without our lives; but the life of an ideal rests upon commerce...Bodies come and go, but corporations live with a life eternal, and only die for the want of profit... People need to put this disease in perspective, and much as they value their own lives, they just may need to let go of life for a higher good..Consider; that death is the best friend of capital, that, business is best after a war...It is because there is more opportunity, higher wages, and less useless bodies to feed... Instead of fearing death, we should welcome death, and celebrate death...Death and Capital are Janus, always on the lookout, and always ready to exploit opportunity... Forget Jesus...Janus should be our God....Keep your eyes open...Never think...Never blink...We live only for a while, and die for an ideal....Thanks...Sweeney

Mr. Buchanan: This column is a pristine example of why you will never be a leader. It's nice to comment on the odds of this or that, but if you can't get that what's going on now with swine flu is not a border closer, you're just going to be stuck in Little League until you wither away. Our vice president is a good man, but he earned his reputation again as someone who speaks first and thinks later. So did whoever it was in Egypt who got the bright idea to slaughter all of the country's pigs, although I doubt whoever that was will ever really do anything that can legitimately be called thinking. The mob gets out of control fast, Mr. Buchanan.
