Thank you for this timely article. I have long thought that there is not a civic interest in marriage, and such should not be tied to civic benefits. Regardless of my marital status, I am a tax-paying responsible citizen and should receive the same benefits as other tax-paying responsible citizens. The time has passed when we as a society should making sweeping standards for all.
