I hate to admit that Ms. Malkin can get anything right--but she has some good points re: mr. Carter and his stupidity in dealing with Hamas openly and with direct, publically covered talks. Having said that, he hardly respresents the liberal cause--he is, in fact, part of the "pro-palestinian" religious left that is a small fraction of liberal thought. I used to sit on the board of the local Progressive coalition--but had to resign after an anti-Iraq peace march was led by these left wing religionists to include a tribute to Iraqi dead as equivalent to American Soldier deaths in Iraq---as a Vietnam era veteran I could not support that logical nexus. Those same folks contiually promote a "pro-palestinian" view in caucuses and Democratic party conventions--but, again, they are a small minority. It is a shame that Mr. Carter and his running mates have brought dishonor to the liberal cause by claiming it's mantle for their religionist views---but they are not "representative" of the great majority of liberals who support diplomatic efforts with all groups----but would view dealing with groups like Hamas as a back channel effort to first bring about a moderation of their bellicosity on Israel--then supplying the reward of public meetings. We in the mainstream of liberal thought take great umbrage to being lumped with these "muddle headed" religionists--who like their right wing brethren--care nothing for practical reality but see only their narrow view of moral and scriptural interpretations of reality thereby damaging America and deminishing our freedoms and values.
