I wish the rest of the world would just stop loaning us money but they won't for the same reason drug dealers don't stop selling drugs to their customers; the more we borrow the weaker we become and are forced to sell off the assets of this country. When we've been weakened enough and are no longer needed, the boom will be dropped. None of this will scare today's Americans, who, as a group, think no further into the future than next week's paycheck. We have a simple , naive belief that any nation as militarily strong as we are is safe from calamity when just the opposite is true. Our overspending on the military forces us to borrow and keeps us from investing in education, healthcare, the environment and renewable energy technology, areas that the rest of the developed world rightly see as critical to real national strength.
