Taiwan Declares Peace on China

You can't trust the Chinese. I don't care if you're talking about those communists on the mainland or the other guys on Taiwan — they just won't follow the war-games script that our weapons hawks had counted on. Their mutual passion runs not to matters of tired politics but rather on the lust of venture capitalists. To the Chinese, irrespective of past allegiances, the prospect of war has come to be viewed as counterproductive, and they now have the confidence to show it.

The rest of the world realizes that pursuing military dominance at the expense of far more pressing needs is sheer folly but in the good ol USA, where fear and strident militarism are strange twins, this obvious fact will never be acknowledeged . That 3:00 a.m. phone call will not be about a terror attack, but the upcoming economic meltdown that is so clearly on it's way. Will we react in a maure and responsible way or threaten mankind with destruction if they don't bail us out?
