Sotomayor's Aversion to Impartiality

The chief blot on Sonia Sotomayor's otherwise stellar professional record is a comment she made deprecating the capabilities of any judge lacking a Y chromosome and Iberian ancestry.

"I would hope," she said in a 2001 lecture on law and multicultural diversity, "that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

This nomination just gets harder and harder to accept as more information is found out. People say that a minority woman judge would be better than a white male judge. Race and gender should not be brought into account for items such as this. If they do than nothing would ever be ruled upon the same way twice. There would be no way to set precedent and the judicial system would become even more bogged down with appeals than it is currently. Each new judge would have a new perspective and instead of looking at the law and the constitution would add their own two cents creating a completely different outcome.
