Shocked About Waterboarding?

by Joseph Farah

I don't get it. The consensus in Washington these days is against coercive interrogations of even the most dangerous terrorists in the world — monsters who have knowledge of impending massive, deadly attacks on innocent U.S. citizens.

The politicians who control the Congress and the White House say it would be "cruel and unusual punishment" to employ techniques like "waterboarding," even though it causes no permanent damage, scarring or disfigurement.

Sir;...Just a note in passing; but just because some have sought massive deadly attacks against us does not mean they all have... Do you suppose there is not one innocent among them???Well, you are innocent, and as pure as the driven snow, and perhaps as cold.... If you were picked up on suspicion, and you promptly spilled the beans on every possible issue to evade the indignity of torture, and yet, to be certain, you were tortured, for hours, days, weeks, or months and years on end; would you consider it fair???In the power of ones enemies when fighting a war you feel just, honor demands some protection... It is the worst crime imaginable to attack and injure a person unable to offer any defense...It is torture for this reason...And it is not only the guilty that demand the protection of humanity, but the innocent, who have been swept up into these prisons and tortured...If it were you being tortured, I do not doubt you would see things differently...I have been tortured, and it was not for information, but to punish...I still hurt from an injury done to me in the home of my friends... It was official...It was people acting under color of authority who hurt me with a life long injury... No matter how I hurt, no doctor hearing the facts, of the cops on one side, and me on the other would give me any pain medication... Since the pain was from destroyed nerves, there was little that would help anyway, but for me to resolve to ignore it, and get on with the affairs of life...It is so easy to wish ones pain upon another, and to never question why people hate us, and to never plumb the depths of our own responsibility for what has happened to us...Just as in my case, we put ourselves in their hands out of too much trust and too little doubt...Torturing them will not end our stupidity, which is ongoing, but only adds to the very list of wrongs that makes them hate us...Thanks...Sweeney
