Col. North: I've been wanting to ask you for some time if you recall ever having met a now deceased Marine buddy of mine, the late Lt. Col. Dan Carter. Dan was Deputy Director of Counter Intelligence at HQMC during the mid to late 90's. He was there during the same time now Rtd. Lt. Gen. Paul Van Riper was assigned to HQMC.
Dan and I were E-5 Sgt.'s in S-2 at MAG-11in Danang in 1968 and 69. He was an extremely bright young Marine and it's no surprise that he worked his way up through WO, eventually, somehow transitioning to Maj. and finally Lt. Col. before retiring. I visited Dan in the 1990's when he was living in Annandale and working with G-2 at HQMC.
He was kind enough to get me pass to the "Evening Parade" at Henderson Hall. Dan passed away from Cancer about 6-7 years ago. I'd sure appreciate knowing if you ever met this "other great Marine", my friend, Dan
Carter.
Semper Fidelis,
