Romney's Value

by Robert D. Novak

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The principal reason why former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has climbed to the top of Sen. John McCain's practical wish list for vice president is the possibility that he could bring Michigan's 17 electoral votes to the Republicans for the first time since 1988.

Private polls show Romney could make all the difference in Michigan. A McCain-Romney ticket carries the state by a moderately comfortable margin. With any other running mate, McCain loses Michigan. ( Back to Article )

Governor Romney used to be classified as a definite RINO. Now he tries to make himself look like a second Reagan. If this change is genuine, I couldn't be happier. But I need time and evidence to show me he's not faking it. Here are a few examples of the liberal positions Romney has held: Supported abortion Supported ENDA Opposed a marriage amendment Supported the Brady Bill Supported a federal assaults weapon ban Here is an old campaign ad from when Romney ran for office in Massachusetts: http://njmccain.blogspot.com/2007/10/romney-im-not-trying-to-return-to.html Learn about Romney from Massachusetts conservatives: http://massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/record/

Where does Governor Romney stand on abortion? After his "pro-life conversion," Romney established $50 taxpayer-funded abortions as a "healthcare benefit." http://republicansforfamilyvalues.com/2008/01/19/romney-care-lists-abortion-as-a-covered-benefit/ Besides that, only a few months ago, Governor Romney endorsed republican Charles Summers for Congress. Mr. Summers is pro-abortion. His opponent, republican Dean Scontras, is pro-life. If Governor Romney is currently pro-life, why don't his endorsements fit his stance?
