Political Suicide
by Susan Estrich
It was bound to happen, I suppose, even if everyone knows better. The fact that all you accomplish when you cut off your nose is to spite your face doesn't stop people from doing it every day. So why should Democrats be different?
The latest poll from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal confirms the worst fears of Democrats: that what should be a Democratic year could become a Republican one. For the second time in a row, the pollsters have found that roughly 20 percent of Clinton's s ...

The Reverend Wright episode and the Hillary Bosnia story together remind me of the Hindenburg, going down in flames over Lakehurst, with the Democratic Party playing the role of the blimp.
If this primary is any example of how they might run our country, neither one could be hired to be the night manager at the local "Der Wienerschnitzel," let alone the leader of the free world.
Time to get ready for 2012.

Obama and Clinton are not on one side and McCain on the other.
Clinton and McCain both voted for the war, that is a distinction that you should make.
In your previous column, you said under Obama's idea, Obama backer Ted Kennedy should become a Clinton superdelegate. You failed to mention that Clinton would also lose supporters: Barbara Mikulski would have to support Obama.

I have watched the BOSNIA tapes of Hillary Clinton's visit and now think that her account, although fuzzy, is close to the truth.
Mrs. Clinton is surrounded by soldiers in anti-sniper gear. They ring her as she walks along.
If the place was so safe, why was all that security in place. Others who were on that trip are now coming forward and describing that visit a little more clearly as being fraught with danger.
I think that the press should investigate this matter a lot more as her account may not be far from the truth.
I have watched the tapes again and again and I think they actually bear out a more dangerous situation than the pundits have led us to believe was the case. The anti-Hillary pundits are just not credible on this.
LOOK AT THE FOOTAGE AGAIN Look carefully at what the soldiers are wearing. ANTI-SNIPER GEAR.

I'm a Democrat but I'm also the mother of a 19-year-old son. I'm supporting Sen. Clinton but would never vote for Sen. Obama. If, as is inevitable, a terrorist group sets off a nuclear bomb in the US, I'm confident either Sen. Clinton or Sen. McCain could find the right response. Who knows how Sen. Obama would react? This is a man whose only accomplishments have been to get himself elected to increasingly higher offices. He's never had to think deeply on any policy or issue (witness his silly 'voluntary' health insurance plan).
It's John McCain whose been able to work with Democrats to develop and enact legislation. Again, name one piece of legislation Sen. Obama has championed with a Republican. No such animal exists.
I'm confident there will be a Democratic blow out at the state levels so Congress will be able to stop Sen. McCain from undoing abortion rights and the other issues I care about. As for judges, believe it or not, many Democrats outside California do not want liberal judges who don't believe there's such a thing as a bad boy, only evil law enforcement.
I'm dismayed at the Democratic politicians who support Sen. Obama. I doubt if any member of the Senate truly believes Sen. Obama is capable or experienced enough to be President, but they'll support him because they think he could be elected. Sen. Obama isn't good or honest (read his Rev. Wright circular comments) or tested. He's pretty and he's lucky. Neither is going to last.
It's sad that so many Democrats put party before country. I certainly won't be one of them.

I am enjoying watching Hillary and Obama and feel it is like watching The American Idol. Being a former democrat who is now an independent, I am enjoying watching Hillary fight when the fight battles when the war has already been won by Obama. I am a former home care nurse who worked in the inner city in NJ and found many minorities slaves to the government due to welfare and all were on medicaid. Most could not function without assistance and most were held down to the level of alcohol and drug abuse by getting their check each month without working for it. Did you know if you are an alcoholic or drug user you are considered disabled? I had one women ask me to take her to vote so she can vote herself in a democrat so she would not lose her check. Obama did not elaborate on that point and most missed it. The democratic party is who is holding down the blacks making them feel they are owed this instead of making them work to their potential and get a good job. I had a woman take herself off her blood pressure medicine because if her pressure was good she would have to come off disablility and get a job. This mentality has been passed down in generations and continue to be with the help of the democratic party. I found this disgraceful and sad so I left the party because I could not agree with all of this.

Over a year ago, prior to the contentious campaigning for which both campaign staffs and some of their followers should be held responsible, I perceived the idea that a combined ticket, i.e. Clinton-Obama OR Obama-Clinton would be the resolve to these two strong candidates though, personally, I am one who no longer will vote for Senator Obama if Senator Clinton is not on the ticket with him due to his choice of spiritual advisors until he is truly vetted during the next four years. This potential rupture could have been avoided long ago (Senator Clinton was reaching out) however Obama and Governor Dean, obviously, think he can win without Senator Clinton on the ticket....I intuitively sense his winning will no longer happen (no matter the other person he were to choose for his running mate if it isn't Clinton). My perception is that Obama and his wife have let their egos enter into this campaign season (boasting "it's now or never") rather than seeing the larger picture wherein The Democratic Party might have experienced the good fortune of locking-up the White House for 16 years to ensure something could truly be accomplished in this society rather than placing more Band-Aids on the current seeping wounds of this country. Frankly, most unresolved problems in a corporation begin with the C.E.O. and, therefore, I hold Governor Dean and the old white men of The Democratic Party responsible for what might now occur as there appears to be some throwing of certain others in The Party under the bus (just as Senator Obama did with his grandmother recently). What Governor Dean fails to realize is that Vermont, Oregon, and Washington still are not representative of how those of us in other states think, perceive life, or politics.

I think the "political suicide" has a lot to do with your pick for the nomination: Hillary Clinton. She has stubbornly stayed in this race, undermining the superdelegates and playing dirty games. Her alleged 35 years of experience has been trounced and exposed by the media and her own former supporters. The Irish are laughing when she talks about her role in the peace talks. The rest of America is laughing when she makes up yet another story about her sniper-laden "near-perpendicular" landing in Bosnia. And to comment #3: they were probably in anti-sniper gear because Bosnia was still a volatile place at that point. However, the war was over. Not very many people take Hillary seriously anymore. She's come across as crass, immature, and unreliable. Her numbers keep going down, down, down. Hopefully, her advisors will see the light of day and quit the campaign so she's forced to quit!

Another communist liberal who's ignorant of how things really are. Obama is a racist like his pastor. Hillary is communist like her husband ( who sold military secrets to the Chinese). They both would lead this country in ruin.

Political Suicide? It looks to me that in the long run it would be political suicide if either of these 'great and historic candidates' were to be elected in the Fall. Two years down the road, the Republicans would take back the House and Senate, and either of them would be single term.
Look, I am Independent but have not voted for a Democrat for a long time outside of Tom Lantos (more than once) and Dianne Feinstein (once). No, I am not Jewish. I also like Lieberman a lot and saw how he got trashed by this current Democratic Party. I know there are some fine and sane Democrats in the party, but I think that all of the "leadership" is essentially wacko. It has not been easy living out here in California (Bay Area) at that. Yes, it hurts that this state is winner take all in national elections.
I have thought for a number of years that it would grand it the Democratic Party could repair itself, but no, it only gets worse. One prediction I have though is: Hillary would probably carry California, but I do not think that Obama would ... so maybe winner-take-all won't be so bad this time around if that loony party continues to stab Hillary in the back. It will be fascinating to see how those timorous clowns 'resolve' Florida and Michigan ... the same way they 'resolve' everything else no doubt. Maybe they should form a committee to look into themselves.

At what point does the head of the DNC step forward and admit incompetence? This nominating process is shameful. Super-delegates are there to subvert the process by design. They were the fail-safe to ensure that the hirearchy could over-rule the popular vote. So why all the hand-wringing when the situation they prepared for comes to pass? Hoisted by their own petard they were. This is a result of over-exhuberence for a candidate spectacularly unvetted. With pundits like Chris Matthews gushing orgasmic over Obama, unwilling to give him even a cursory inspection, who could be surprised that tragedy has ensued? Clinton has every right to campaign until the nomination is either surely secured or lost. One month ago Democrat's were gleeful over the McCain vs Huckabee bloodletting. Now they are bereft at their own self-made misfortunes. Eventually the party will learn to stand for something that isn't subject to daily revue. A few core values would go a long way.

First, the numbers are wrong. 19% of BHO's voters would not vote for HRC. 29% of HRC voters would not vote for BHO.
That is over 50% MORE Clinton voters who would not vote for Obama than Obama voters who wouldn't vote for Clinton.
My family and I are in the group who will NEVER vote for Obama. Why? Because he is a robot of the Daley Political Machine who has NEVER done anything for the people of Illinois, never done anything for the people of his State Senate district, yet wrote plenty of letters to other politicians to help his Slumlord friends, Rezko and Davis obtain $43 million in loans from the American taxpayor that they defaulted on. More than half of those apartment buildings forclosed on or condemned were in Obama's own State Senate district, putting thousnads of Blacks on the street. Yet he has not product a SINGLE letter interceding on behalf of even ONE of his constituents.
If he couldn't protect 150,000 people in his Senate District then how is he going to be able to protect 300 MILLION Americans. He can't! That is why he would be even WORSE that George W, Bush is.
He is the most left wing Senator there is, even to the left of KENNEDY.
While everyone is making fun of Hillary and her trip to Bosnia, at least she had the courage to go there. And it was not safe. For the previous two months, a number of British soldiers were shot at by snipers, injured in bombings and all of this in the area of the bases she visited. She didn't have to go there but she chose to. Where was Obama? Wheeling and dealing with his Slumlord buddies back in Chicago.
The MSM and the political cartoonists had a field day attacking her. Over 100 major political cartoons making fun of her Bosnia comments, yet she was made to fly in the crew compartment because it is the only section of the plane that is ARMORED. This was done for her safety. Why would this be done if there were no danger? Yes, she did exaggerate the danger by saying they had to duck. That was wrong and stupid of her and she admitted it. Yet Obama defended his racist preacher while tossing his own Grandmother who raised him under the bus.
He never even mentioned Wright's constant anti-Semetic remarks or his hero worshipping of Lewis Farrakahn (the Reverends, not Obama's... at least that we know of). Even Wright himself said that if the Jewish voters found out about his and Lewis's visit to Omar Kadaffi that Obama wouldn't get a single Jewish vote. But he was wrong! Jewish leaders are flocking to him. Over 70 top Jewish politicians in Penn have just endorsed him. I guess Jewish folks like to be abused, like the wife who keeps taking back her abusive husband.
Ditto for Hispanics. Obama's wife votes as a director of Treehouse foods to shut a plant in Aurora Colorado, putting 153 mostly Hispanic workers into the street and Richardson turns around and endorses him! Not only is Richardson a Judas to the Clintons, he is a Judas to his own people. That town only had 1,500 people so Michelle Obama's vote put over 10% of the people of that town out of work.Plus, OBama attacked Hillary for being a director of Wal-Mart. Only he neglected to mention that she was a director when Sam Walton was owner and he was an America first guy, not like today's Wal-Mart that deals with third world and Chinese products. As a director there, Hillary worked on Wal-Mart being more environmentally friendly and succeeded. She also worked on having Wal-Mart put more women into management positions. She wasn't as sucessful there but at least she wasn't closing plants and laying off minority workers like Obama's wife. By the way, the largest customer of Treehouse Foods? Wal-Mart!
So while you say that the Democratic Party is self-destructing you are right. But not because of Hillary Clinton. Because of Obama, who leads in delegates because of his wins in states that will NEVER vote Democratic in the general election. While Hillary was winning in states like New Jersey, California, Ohio, Florida and Texas Obama was winning in places where there are more cows than people like North Dakota and Vermont.
If the Democratic Party were operating under the same delegate rules as the Republicans are she would have won the nomination months ago. Instead, with their proportional allocation (what is proportional about a system that awards Obama 99 delegates and Clinton 94 delegates when Clinton won the popular vote in the state, specifically Texas?) the RED states went for Obama because the Republicans know he can never win as President so they crossed over and voted for him. Then the "Super Delegates" can ignore everything the voters have done and vote for whomever they want.
As a Republican, I was willing to go against my Party and vote for Hillary. As I said, I would never vote for Obama and none of my family will either. That is only four votes but I also don't know a single person who is going to vote for Obama if he is nominated. If that means McCain is President and he puts up ultra-Conservative Justices, then the Democratic Party has only itself to blame for that.
If they nominate Hillary, they will win the White House. If they nominate Obama they will lose. It is as simple as that.
