The media have an obvious vested interest in constantly urging that cameras be allowed in more places where governmental decisions are being made, including the Supreme Court of the United States. Like so many things that are said to be good for the public, this is something that would be good only for its advocates— and harmful to the process of making decisions in the public interest, as distinguished from providing a forum for grandstanding.

Was it William F. Buckley who said that he would rather be governed by the first 500 people in the Boston phone book than the faculty of Harvard? I think adding that it would be better for the USA if it were governed by a duck hunting club than the 535 moral ciphers that actually do govern it, and that we would get a more presidential president if we required that he or she be someone who spent a goodly portion of his/her life working manually rather than someone who worked as an influence peddler and extortionist in the inner city would be just as cogent a statement as that of Mr. Buckley. I have come to the depressing conclusion that the country is ruined, and the only thing that could possibly turn the fast slide into hell around is an armed insurrection. I am not advocating one, but I think that one will come, and when it does, it will either be the armageddon we have all feared, or the new beginning that we so desperately need.
