Denver was/is a good symbolic location for President Obama's economic recovery act signing. As a resident, I agree that this is a wonderful place to live, but the symbolism is deeper. Denver has resurected and redefined itself several times, just at the US economy must now. From it's gold-seeking beginning, to ranching and then mining, Denver residents have made thieir livings off of the land. The land has also limited us. It resulted in many boom-bust cycles that whiplashed the populace. Over the past two decades the Denver metro area has made a conscious decision to diversify: light industry, medical research, wind and solar energy, tourism. That diversity is also what must be present in the US if we are to get out of this mess. We need a diversified job market, energy policy and investment community. With all of Denver's assets, we also know that the land has put severe limits on us: the lack of water to adequately support our growing population. That limit has caused us to recognize the we must LIVE WITHIN OUR MEANS. PerhapsPresident Obama's choice of Denver was spot on in this regard.
