Great article, it reflects my disappointment in Senator McCain completely. He needs to be more like the Maverick that he was in 2000, when I did, in fact, support him in the Michigan primary. Here's hoping the phrase "appeasing the base" goes extinct after Tuesday.

Blah, blah, blah. Seriously, does anyone stop to ponder the obsurdity of all this. No. We all just blindly except the two party system as gospel. This is ridiculous. And the media propogates this bile. Here's my plea to you in the media: stop polarizing America! Show America more than two options.

This article is ridiculous. First, the author uses quotes around the phrase "pro-life" but does not use quotes around the phrase "pro-choice". Using quotes around one and not the other casts an unfair dubiousness on the former. Second, Harrop's assertion that Tom Ridge would have been a better choice for VP is itself dubious. By picking Ridge over Palin, McCain would have lost the support of "pro-life" voters like myself and many others. Alienating the Republican base would not have helped win this election(even if the media may have been friendlier) . Anyway, it seems clear at this point that McCain would probably still lose this election-mainly because of the economy- no matter what choice he made for VP. But we will see in four years whether the Republicans choose a Ridge type or Palin type as their next presidential candidate. I wouldn't bet on Ridge.

Your article was published in today's Knoxville News Sentinel, and it said everything I have been feeling since the Democratic National Committee annointed Obama over Clinton. I could easily have voted for McCain, but I could never willingly put Palin in a postion to appoint Supreme Court justices. As the campaign has worn on, I have gained respect for Obama, and I have voted for him, in an already-determined red state. We can only hope he will carry the day. Thank you for your great article.
