Politicians don't tell the truth about what they feel or think, hence the term "politically correct". Now, here's one who does, and his wife expresses what many American's are feeling given Vietnam, the Nixon years, the Clinton years, and the final blow of the Busheny years. But a basher is a basher, so you bash them for their truth. Much better in your eyes for them to make it up as they go along. Got it.
As for your understanding about why people turn to God. All the broadcast religious shows say at the end, "if you need God in your life" Any religious teacher or leader will tell you people turn to God when there is lack in their lives. The rest of the time the majority may or may not go to chuch or pray or even think about God. As to practising what religion teaches them, I think not! American's pick and choose what they take away from their spiritual leaders, some they keep and hold dear, others they discard. Just look at your boy Bush, he certainly is known as a religious man. Look at the evil he has wrought with his Christian ideology.
