Obama's First 100 Days

Hey Pat. Way to discourage the turnout for McCain. We get enough of that from everybody else, don't need it from you. The battle is not quite over and you don't need to hold up the "White Flag" before the fight is over. Your comments do have an influential and discouraging effect on folks. If you are losing heart keep it to yourself there are still many who want to fight till the battles over.

Once again, we see a scare tactic about why not to vote for someone. What Mr. Buchanan, someone I do enjoy very much, fails to mention is that President's don't create policy. Let's not forget, Congress writes (or is suppose to) bills/policy and President's sign and in some cases can help shape policy. Shall we vote for someone because of scare tactics against the other person? I truly hope we are better than that and can step back and realize both of the Presidential candidates love their country and want the best for it. What I would rather see from Mr. Buchanan is advice and suggestions for the first 100 days...not simply trying to fuel the fire of fear and scare. We are better than this as a country....let's start acting and demanding it.

Re: Matt;... Sir, to our presidents not creating policy; I answer B.S. We have an elected Monarch in this country; and the situation will not improve because it cannot improve... Every election cycle finds this country with more voters electing the same number of representatives: Our house of Commons... Since they limited their number they have grown not at all and now represent 600K each from divided districts... That is constitutional because the Supreme court says it is constitutional; but the practical meaning is that the benefit of democracy, of actually being able to influence the government is lost to the people... We could send the number suggested by the constitution, and it mighht be a non stop riot... I doubt we would need to pay more than we now pay... I doubt we would see our needs shelved or played politics with nearly so much... WE have went down hill in our democracy, all the while the British have made gains with theirs... They have a figurehead Monarch... We have a real one, and not because that was the intent of the contituion, but by default -because the house wanting power, took it from the people. They denied the people their voice so they would not have to follow the will of the people... You cannot have a democracy with close to fifty percent denied any say, any representative, or any influence... We began this country with one representative for every thirty thousand, and the government was weak, but the people were strong... Now the government is strong but it suffers what ever king is elected... Both Senate and President should do the people's will, and that will not happen so long as the will of the people can be denied in the people's house... If the people cannot have the ratio of representatives we were promised, then we should have direct democracy.... That is all that is wrong with this country... We have no democracy. Mr. Buchanan:
Gee whiz; who is responsible for this perplexing state of affairs?
Maybe the Republican Party is to blame; maybe George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are to blame; maybe John McCain shares some of the blame for being one of Bush's most consistent supporters.
How would a McCain presidency affect the immigration problem?; pretty much the same as you described.
What's wrong with taxing the rich who own all that bank stock and got bailed out at the expense of the middle class? Let them bail out themselves; they haven't done anything to help this country; quite to the contrary, lobbying Congress to give tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas have done irreparable harm to America. It is they who want the cheap labor available from illegal immigrants, so they don't have to pay decent wages to legitimate citizens.
Why not tell us what a McCain presidency would do for America? How about more war in the Middle East (Iran and Syria); war with Russia; war with China; war with Venezuela; war with Colombia and Bolivia; hell, why not another World War? How about more tax breaks for the super-wealthy? Maybe John and Cindy McCain could buy a few more houses; they must be struggling to get by with only nine.
The reality is that neither one of the mainstream candidates is fit to run this country. Both of them are Fabian Socialists; both voted for the bailouts; both want our cultural and social institutions destroyed by floods of immigrants; both want heavy-handed government interference in our lives. We'd be better off with a Henry Wallace or a Norman Thomas.
This country is on its way to the ashbin of history, and neither McCain nor Obama has a clue what to do to stop that from happening. What we need is for voters to have Damascan Road experience on the way to the polls and decide to write-in Ron Paul for president.

So Yoda: You think it is the future you see? Why don't you get a grip on yourself, try to cut through the Alzheimer's, and take a crack at remembering the last 8 years? Where was your great vision of the future when the two champs currently in the White House were about to get elected? You must have been positively orgiastic at the prospect. And no predictions did we see then about our fearless leader trumping up a phony pretext to go to war, no warnings about the government utterly failing its citizens during a hurricane, no prescience about the greatest economic meltdown since the Great Depression due directly to the excesses of the "free capital gains from taxes" crowd. It is astounding that you have the gall, or stupidity, or whatever your synaptic deficit is to be blaming Obama in advance for a big budget deficit in his first year of office. I just can't imagine what neurological tangle in your head can allow you to place yourself in the absurd position of trying to warn us about deficit spending, of all things, when the guy you have backed for 8 long years has just written the book on how to spend us into the ground. Especially considering what we got for it: Rotting roads, bridges, and infrastructure, steady loss of healthcare and retirement benefits, a much bigger mess than we started out with internationally. See any bullet trains, anybody? Not in this country.

What is that acrid odor coming from the republican party? Well of course, it is raging desperation!! You people did this to yourselves and have no one else to blame. Now you will pay the price for your numerous misdeeds.
