While I'm not happy about Obama's bail-out plan (as far as rewarding irresponsible spending), I am thrilled that he's deciding which charities to give to. Perhaps we can be free of celebrity guilt-giving to Potemkin charities that exacerbate Israeli devastation or plastic surgery foundations posing as scientifc reseearch, etc. The old standard of the rich acquiring wealth through hard work and merit is hardly known these days. Sacrifice, which is foreign to most of our generation, is what is going to pull this world through (Obama has not really laid out the blueprint for sacrifice, I'm afraid). I don't think most Americans are ready to scale down their out-of-control lifestyles unless forced.
