Obama's Black Problem: Part 1

by Roland S. Martin

There is little doubt that Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is going to aggressively pursue the Democratic nomination for president in 2008.

The forming of his exploratory committee is simply the foundation to what will be a campaign that many are saying will be a formidable challenge to Democratic rivals such as Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.

While Democrats across the country fall over themselves just to touch the man, he is being eyed suspiciously by the nation's black leaders ...

Obama is immune to the spicy, rough talk of people he loves. Imagine how he felt when grandma came home and said, "Obama, those n----- out there scared me to death when I was walking down the street!" So when he heard Rev. Wright speak ugly, it rolled off his back like so much dirty water. He had heard such talk every since he was born! It made him thick-skinned, with a hearty stamina. It gave him strength. This is what we want in a president. Finally. He had heard both sides of the story. It may shock us. But not him. And not only did he hear it from grandma, but he heard it from grandpa, Aunt Sue and Uncle Lou too! Obama loves his country. He is just not happy with the way it is being run at this time. Most of us aren't. This doesn't make him a traitor. As for the "typical white" statement, I live in Philadelphia, PA where he made all of his controversial statements of late. There are places in this city that I as an African-American female or male for that matter, can't go, day or night. The residential far Northeast, parts of South Philly, and parts of Kensington. These places are "owned" by Caucasian people. At least they act as though they own it. So, America, don't act like you don't know from where Obama is coming. And if you live in Phila., PA you understand completely what he means. As for Hillary, I like her. If Obama was not running I would vote for her. But how can she claim to be able to "satisfy" a whole country of angry Americans when she obviously could not "satisfy" Bill?

I am a 69 year old black man listing and watching main stream media expressing the fillings of the majority of white people over the words of rev. Wright and the decision of Obama to remain in his church. Mitt .Rommey joined not only a church but a faith that believed black people were cursed; here is a verse from The Book of Normans. • 1 Nephi 12:23 "And I beheld, after they had dwindled in unbelief they became a dark and loathsome and a filthy people, full of idleness and all manner of abominations. Were is the main stream media in expressing the fillings of black people, in fact all Americans? George Bostick
