Obama: 'Bitterly' Out of Touch

by Larry Elder

"Bitter," says Sen. Barack Obama, the man of hope and change, about those who live Pennsylvania, small towns and the Midwest.

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania," Barack Obama said two Sundays ago to the Brie-and-chardonnay crowd at a fundraiser in San Francisco, "and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years, and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration and the Bush a ...

I am surprised and shocked at your article regarding Obama's comments. How is it that you are so out of touch that you would take his comments so far out of context. Those comments were not meant to insult anyone. He was identifying with the frustration that people feel every day and stating that since we are powerless to do anything about the more important issues that concern us, we misdirect our anger and bitterness to other issues. Can we stay focused on what the candidates are actually saying and stop putting words in their mouths. PEACE

Larry, as always you bring a fresh perspective that is correct only about 50% of the time. What is most alarming is that you are aware of your ridiculous and ultra right wing assertions because it pays your bills. It is the same mindset of Clarence Thomas whom benefited from affirmative action and then wanted to remove it. I am not calling you a TOM however; I am calling you an opportunist that offers no solutions. For instance, during your recent article you compared Obama's 'bitter' comments to that of the president's being out of touch with his statement about the $4 dollar per gallon gas price. Your point was to show that the newspapers should have put Obama's comments on the front page. You failed to see two important points: 1. Mr. Bush is the leader of the free world and he is on the job. He should know what the Iraq war is doing to people. He clearly is aware of congress attempting to remove the Oil Company's tax benefits. He also made these comments in a much great forum so more people saw it initially. Obama's comments were in private. 2. Most importantly, Obama's gaffe was thoroughly covered by every news paper and and TV audience. I would encourage you to search Obama's comments from a 2004 interview on this same issue and it provides context to what he was attempting to say. Sir, you are so much better than what you are demonstrating and I for one expect better from you. I know that Hannity has no real skills but you are much better than this. Get all of your facts straight and ensure that you vet each candidate with the same vigor that you attack Mr. Obama. It is good for the country. Lastly, I always hold the sitting President more accountable than somebody applying for the job and so should you!
