National Security Is THE Issue

by David Limbaugh

While there is plenty of room for robust debate about Iraq, what concerns me is that the direction of this discussion has, ironically, taken our eyes off the real ball, which is our national security.

Don't get me wrong. I believe the Iraq war has everything to do with our national security. How we proceed — whether we maintain sufficient forces there to ensure the nation's long-term stability or prematurely withdraw with reckless disregard for the consequences — is critica ...

"The Islamist Global Threat", hmmh, a few years back it was "The Communist Threat". Didn't we put 'em out in the Cold and wasn't hatred fostered within our hearts and our lands against "the Reds"? Weren't we forced to turn on our own to avoid being labeled a "red"? Is all this being done to ensure this upcoming generation will be manipulated and molded like the previous generations? Just so much propaganda from all sides. They say the terrorist's teach their kids from an early age to hate the infidel. Well what exactly do you think we are teaching our kids with all this fear based rhetoric? Spreading fear amongst its citizens and then controlling the information we receive, making sure front page headlines are given to the fear and good news hidden in the back, it's tiresome. No wonder newspapers are dying, too many good reporters with all sides of the story on the internet. I don't believe anyone should forget these past eight years and how we came to such a criitical time, nor who brought it about and why. That's why so much slips past the public. It's news one day, the next day on to something else, a distraction. Soon no more news and people forget. If we don't forget, then a red herring is put out there, something to set fear in our hearts and instead of demanding explanations and accountability, we gather close to family and friends, support each other and our poor leaders. and the deed is done. No accountability. The Busheney's have played that plan and worn it out.Now everyone tried to dodge the big bullet of responsibility for this mess by sending more fear messages. It's a brilliant plan. Push the threat of nuclear war, or the Red Threat or Korea or Viet Nam. Then do what you want, make your own deals, and don't worry about the country. We'll start telling them some good news, they'll bury their dead and forget. Prices will go down, the economy will go up, business as usual in this game of the gods.

Isn't it time to admit that Bin Laden and his ragtag crew are nothing but international criminals, not a "National Security Threat"? 9/11 was horrific, and AQ has a sinister program, but how do people like you live with yourselves pretending that the United States, the world's most powerful nation, bar none, is at "war" with several thousand extremists, as if they pose a serious threat to our country or way of life? Good old AMERICAN GANGS kill many MORE Americans every year than Islamic terrorists do worldwide. Are these gangs a national security threat? Car accidents kill 50,000 Americans every year. Is our nation in peril? Your articles provide ZERO PROOF of any threat capable of inflicting mortal harm on our country from these psychos. While they CAN hurt innocent Americans, and cause fear and damage, you do a disservice to our country pretending they are enemies of any real standing. You're playing into their hands, making them look big, making America look scared. They are thugs, cowards, bullies, criminals. Period. We need to protect ourselves, police them, and put our attention and resources on building this nation back into strength. We need a solid economy, we need to re-establish our influence and respect in the world, we need to deal with the infrastructure and issues here at home, if we want to be secure. Look at the Soviet Union: all their weapons and security apparatus didn't keep them from collapsing. They rotted from within, because THEIR ECONOMY TANKED. People like you who make money hyping bin Laden and creating inappropriate and unsubstantiated fears that our country is in mortal risk, undermine America and the people who are REALLY on the front line defending her from REAL danger. You should donate your book royalties to veterans groups and be ashamed.
