Memo to McCain: Take the Gloves Off

by Larry Elder

McCain loses — the first debate, that is.

Blown opportunities? Let us count the ways:

Obama says, without rebuttal, that his plan lowers taxes on "95 percent of working families." This is flatly impossible because 32 percent of income tax returns filed (some 43 million Americans) pay absolutely nothing in federal income taxes. Obama makes his claim by offering a $500 "Making Work Pay" tax credit to everybody ($1,000 per family), by expanding the Earned ...

Sir;... I am going to make a confession of sorts. My grand father was an alcoholic. A binge drinker, decent enough in most respects, but a great ruination of holidays. On one binge my old grandfather started to give some younger guy a dose of insult, and after repeated warnings, he beat the crap out of that old man. Ultimately Mr. Mccain can hide behind his age, and Mrs. Mcpalin can hiide behind her fair sex; but niether can count on much respect when their actions, and the actions of their party have done so much to destroy the respect and trust that binds this society together. I would not take much nonsense from Mrs. Palin before I'd let her go on talking, revealing her lack of education, and intelligence. She really did not know the meaning of the  phrase: Achilles heel. She does not get the true tragedy of people, any people, as in our own civil war who can talk to each other, and understand each other, but cannot with language resolve their differences. She does not get the extent to which people can be motivated by honor to revenge their friends. We can all run over barbarians who have no common tongue with us. But it is a crime to fall out with people so long as words might serve a common purpose, of peace and friendship.. And this is what we have had to endure, and for personal gain people have twisted our words, our English language to mis communication; and that is a crime. Do you want to steal from me? First bedevil me with non sense and promises. Rob me of truth and the theft of property is assured... Let your champion drop his gloves. Let him boldly do battle for his failed ideals. And let him drag his Achilles Heel in heels with him.. Thanks...Sweeney

Sir;... I see you miss the obvious point made by Marx that high profits and glut are synonymous. Years upon years of interest and profit mean that the rich have got all the money and we have all the debt. If you let the market work, property would go down in price and many people could buy back cheap what they sold dear. But what has most often been sold dear in this country has been money, and we have carried profits with short wages, short investment in infrastrucutre and short investment in people, education, and health care. We have made the rich rich, and now the government will make us slaves rather than see the rich pay their due. We can live without them. We can live without Mr. Mccain. Those people and you people can't live without us. So let Mr. Mccain do his worst. He only makes the whole bunch of them look like a criminal reading the bible. What is he going to do? Is he going to get religion? That is the Palin push, but it does not work. It is a weed seed falling for once in the toilet where it belongs. If we could eat more republican garbage we would... We like what they say, but we cannot live with what they do, which is mostly nothing and always nothing good... Thanks...Sweeney

Missed opportunities by McCain prove again he is not fit to hold office. He is not the man he was 20, 30, or 40 years ago so why is that younger man being held up as the candidate? Maybe back in the day he was sharp enough to not miss the opportunities, maybe he would have made a great president, back in the day. He is no longer that man, he is no longer sharp. He is so weak he brought in a very young Palin to hold him up. He had his days in the sun, it's not about taking the gloves off, the man is weak and at times seems befuddled. This is not to praise Obama but to say Obama is only now reaching his prime. He may be capable of great leadership, or not. At the very least, considering our choices, the question seems to be do you want Palin or Obama leading the country?
