McCain Comes Through

by Robert D. Novak
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Partisan Democrats and many members of the news media consider John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate a terrible mistake. But McCain need not worry about their criticism. His unexpected selection satisfied the people he needed to please. Republican conservatives assembling in St. Paul for the party's national convention were described as "ecstatic" over the choice.

Regarding concern as to Gov. Palins experience vis a vis Sen Obama. Sen Obama recieved about 18,000,000 vote in The Democatic primaries. Approximately 36,000,000 people voted in the Democrtic primary. The democratic convention selected Sen Obama. So, my point is, that Sen Obama - experienced or not experienced- was the selected person for 36,000,00 registered voters. Gov. Palin was the selected person of, essentially, one voter - Sen John McCain. I beleive there are real concerns regarding Gov. Plain's level of experience. Any reasonble person would agree the experience level is a viable area for discussion. But the republican spokespersons keep pointing out Sen. Obamas lack of experience and Gov. Palin's executive experience. This truely misses the point - is the goal to select well qualified indivuduals as President and Vice President? I fear Gov. Palin has entered an arena that is far beyound her grasp in terms of the demands and skill level required. If Sen. Obama is elected and proves to be a poor leader, there are 36,000,000 democrats that should learn a big lesson. And hopefully Joe Biden can prevent as much damage as possible. Gov. Palin may prove to be a poor Presidet. BUT this can only be determined if Sen. McCain cannot ontinue as President. I would think any reasonable person should respect the concern that placing Gov. Palin in the role of President is not a risk the people of the US need to take without a true understanding of her skills and abilities. SHe may be an outstanding leader and well equiped to serve as President. But I see not real discussion aout this concern or her aptitudes and skills to serve as president.
