March Madness, 1939
by Pat Buchanan
On Sept. 1, 1939, Hitler's panzers smashed into Poland. Two days later, an anguished Neville Chamberlain declared war, the most awful war in all of history.
Was the war inevitable? No. No war is inevitable until it has begun. Was it a necessary war? Hearken to Churchill:
"One day, President Roosevelt told me that he was asking publicly for suggestions about what the war should be called. I said at once, 'The Unnecessary War.' There never was a war more easy to stop than tha ...

Buchanan: Though I always listen to you for your sense of humor and history you do tend to go off the deep end a lot. WW2 unnecessary? Obviously you are not Jewish, a gypsy, homosexual, GOOD Christian etc.etc.etc. That's just the moral issue. There is no way to stop a maniac after he haS HAD SOME SUCESS. Check from Cyrus to Stalin for confirmation. Sometimes power must be met with power. WW2 was one of those times.

Sir;...I am sorry Mr. B... But I miss the point where war would have been unnecessary.... Was it when the British should have given some help to the Brunning Government in Germany??? Is it before that, when it tried to turn the victory of exhaustion in the the triumph of the allies???Nobody won the first world war... Everybody lost... Everybody lost the second world war too... But America, in ending up with an endless supply of markets and Russia as a cold war enemy, thought it won...You know, Mr. B; that poor people fight wars, and the rich as a class win them...The rich in Germany before the first world war were the rich in Germany after... The burden of a war they fought and stood to benefit not a lick from, was loaded onto working people... The Allies could have given them justice and a working democracy...Why would a parlementary monarchy give the Germans democracy???As we can tell from our own history, and the way our leaders cozy up to Britain; that our leaders admire the aristocrats, and hate democracy...When Hitler took power, the world cheered... All the capitalists and their political mouth pieces thought Herr Hitler would turn his KruptStahl against Russia, and turn her once again into a docile market, and a national of slaves...It makes me wonder how so many can condemn the wars capital has made unavoidable, and yet glorify capitalism... So long as we have capital we will have wars, and we will have poverty and slavery...The second war followed on the heals of the first like a little dog...It was as certain as the fact that to human beings in each country, justice was denied...People are only given justice anywhere by capital to replace the fuse of outrage burning slowly toward destruction... Without justice, war is only a step away, always certain, and unavoidable...Go State...Thanks...Sweeney
