An American standing in the checkout line at a supermarket is better informed on a hot issue of the day than the nation's elite who send their maids to buy food while getting their news from The New York Times and the Washington Post.

So, what's the point here, Cockburn? The mainstream newspapers are liberal-sympathetic sellouts for holding out on this kind of gossip? His infidelity shows that Edwards is yet another running dog of the capitalist class? Or maybe it's just too depressing to go into real news? Buck up, compadre, you can find some stuff worth reporting. Look at Bill Moyers. True, few want to listen to what really matters, but that's what journalism is all about. Get a grip.
