Mr. Sowell-thank you so much for speaking and writing truth. You and a handfull of others are courageous enough to speak out in an atmosphere of increasing darkness, in the US and rest of the world.
Years ago, while still working in Fla. at a Scripps Howard newspaper, I got up at my usual early am, and the Lord spoke to me in my mind-"woe unto them to that call evil good and good evil, that put darkness for light, and light for darness, tht put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent (clever) in their own sight! .Isa. 5:20-23. Vs 23; Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!.
Many say this does't apply to the US, but the US was sovereignly established by God, and the framers of our constitution used the 10 Commandments as it's guideline. As a result, God has blessed this nation beyond any other in the world. So-to whom much is given, much is required. Luke 12:48b.
When I questioned the Lord about Isa. 5, He said to me" the US is now entering into this time, when evil will be considered good, good evil, and all the rest of that verse will happen. Seek me increasingly and I will show you how to rightly divide truth from lies, and will keep you from harm."
I am seeing these things happen, and scales are on people's eyes.
The only real solution is for there to be a geniune outpouring of the Holy Spirit, with people truly repenting of their sins and turning to Christ. And judgment first begins at the house of God-which is now happening. And for just men to speak truth. Please keep doing so.
God bless you, and my prayers are with you.

In a tit-for-tat society, where justice is meted out in proportion to the evil one has committed, barneyfrank would be eviscerated and hung in effigy for a week at a time, equally divided between Freddie Mac and Beewhat Mae.

Upon reading your column I'm forced to wonder, with whom do you really have your beef? The people who bought homes they couldn't afford? The government who responded to home buyers and lending institutions by relaxing borrowing qualifications? The housing industry who collaborated with the cultural mandate of "bigger is better"? Who?
I agree with you that housing has become more expensive relative to income. My father bought his first and last home in 1948 for $8400, about 2.5 times his annual income. Now the ratio is closer to 7-10. However, simply citing California taxes and regulations alongside high real estate appreciation is an observation, not an argument for cause and affect. I don't mind polemics and strong opinions, but I believe you can do better than this sort of simple rant, and something better is certainly required if it's going to be useful now and in the hard times coming
