Love Dies In a TV Bubble

by L. Brent Bozell

On Memorial Day, it would have been nice if the top-rated show was PBS's concert paying patriotic tribute to our brave fighting men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. From the article: "Translation: Family unity or sanity be damned. We've got a hit on our hands." Mr. Bozell doesn't seem to think that the free market should dictate entertainment. I think that free market forces are providing some of the sleaziest and stupidest TV shows imaginable. (Survivor is a prime example of the market dictating TV that degrades the human condition). I'm well aware that free market forces can be a force for great good in some cases and a force for great evil in other cases. Most right-wingers don't seem to comprehend that obvious fact though.....If Mr. Bozell is a right-winger who understands that the profit motive can produce bad products and bad ideas I commend him for it. If Mr. Bozell could inform Limbaugh and his ilk that greed can have bad consequences he would be doing the country a favor.

Everyone involved disgusts on some level. Wouldn't that mean you, too? Look, for the most part I don't agree with you, but as always you neglect one important point: if you don't like what's on TV, don't watch it. People always TALK about what they don't like in this world but do next to nothing to affect positive change. It's easy to sit at a monitor to talk about what's wrong with the show--especially if you're getting PAID for it; it's something totally different to vote with your remote control and flip channels. For those of us who have lives, it's really that simple.
