Look Who's Begging for Regulation

"Regulate the health insurance giants," chanted the reformers.

"Stop denying coverage to sick people," they demanded. "Stop jacking up premiums," they cried. "Health coverage for all," they bellowed.

It was an impressive show that the health care reform movement put on last week at a hearing before the Senate finance committee. It was especially impressive because those doing the chanting, demanding, crying and bellowing were not aggrieved ...

It would be funny if the results weren't so tragic. The companies that sell insurance, the drug companies, and the health care providers are all in line to rookie-doo the consumer and they wait until you are sick to do it. They fought any kind of regulation and spent so much money doing it that I don't feel a bit sorry for any of them. Let the government determine what kind of profit they should make and leave it at that. It can't be any worse than reading about old people who eat cat food so they can afford their medication. They can take the money they used to spend buying politicians and use it for research and development or pay dividends to their stock holders. (What a novel idea!)
