I live in the Twin Cities, and while this is historically a liberal and Democratic stronghold, we do have a significant conservative base and have elected some very conservative legislators.
At any rate, I, as a Democrat, am certainly not looking forward to the NRC spending time in this city, not only because of the potential of getting arrested for driving through St. Paul on my morning commute because I have liberal-messaged bumper stickers on my car, but because of the disruption to the city. Keep in mind that we are still a thriving metropolis and as of last summer, we happen to be short one major highway bridge, so traffic that is already a challenge is going to become far more so for those two weeks. I think the last thing, the LAST thing we need is to add later bar times to that mix.
Let's all keep cool heads and have a hot time in the city this August. The Twin Cities is a beautiful area, with plenty of beaches and bike paths to use (even within a few miles of either downtown) and there's no reason it can't be enjoyed by people on every part of the political spectrum. Enjoy a swim, a treat on a stick at the State Fair and keep the debating inside the convention center.
