Jim Crow Liberalism

by Pat Buchanan

Having lost both houses of Congress and the White House in two straight elections, Republicans are going through an identity crisis, its leaders holding town hall meetings to "listen" to the people.

"What should we focus on? Should we drop the social issues? How do we get the young people back?"

Such angst and soul-searching is not the mark of the leader, but the mark of a man suffering from doubt and despair.

Why is the party in trouble? Simple. Dubya ...

If the Republicans pursue this, they must be EXTREMELY careful to frame the issue in a discrimination way, that in no way makes them look like bitter white guys. Small c conservatism (think Ron Paul) is the Republican's best future. And that's assuming the bond market doesn't kill the value of the dollar and raise interest rates, thus causing a radical dismantling of the federal government (not that that be a bad thing, but the chaos would not be pretty). As Bill Bonner has pointing out, this year for the first time, the states get more of their budget from the feds than from taxes--so much for the "United" States.

Let's do away with all affirmative action programs and open up all jobs, college admissions, etc, on merit. Of course, that would do away with "legacy admissions," otherwise known as affirmative action for rich white guys, which is exactly how George W. Bush got into his MBA program.

I agree that they will need to very carefully pursue this as the current media is in full support of the current establishment. You do not read stories like this in the national spotlight but it happens every day. I work in construction and a competitors company was just told that they won a bid and a contract up until the part that they didn't meet the new guidelines set fourth by the municipality running the project. These guidelines included that the company be minority owned or at least have a large % of minority workers. All bids were thrown out and the project was rebid because none of the contractors met the guidelines. Now, instead of hiring and employing local workers, as most of the contractors bidding were local or regional, it will be awarded to an out of state company that will employ traveling workers and take their money out of state. I hope the municipality that has done this will realize that the local worker is the one who pays all of their payroll and votes them into office!

Unfortunately, the "winning issues" for our neocon-infested party are religion extremism, loyalty to AIPAC (even more than the democrats) which has just destroyed foreign relations, and debates over personal and private issues as the latest southern belt based Republican party is trying to force others to live in a certain way. The Republican party used to be about equality for ALL groups, about rights to practice any religion in private, about not forcing others what to think and how to live, about benefitting from open economic trades rather than, as basically a slave to another country, impose economic sanction for which we haven't seen on ounce of return. I just hope that we can force those neocons to let go of our party. Of course at the same time, they're trying to go back and show support for their old party, the Democrats.

Masako fella ... your comments clearly display the fact that you are not up-to-date with what Bucchanan or any other politician believes in. Just as my fellow Republicans are being brainwashed by FOX news, its safe to say that you and your people are being brainwashed by cnn and the rest of this country's fake, phony and deceiving media. FYI ... Mr. Buchanan is one of the strongest opponents to Rush Limbaugh. He has also been one of the main critics of George W Bush. I suggest that you go and educate yourself about what's really going on in this country. It is soooooooo f*kin' sad to see so many people make comments about and/or follow certain political parties only based on what they see/hear on tv/Internet. My Republican party, Mr. Buchanan's Republican party has been destroyed by the neocons that somehow over the last 20 yrs, weiseled and snuk their way into the party. Oh ... and they came from the Democratic party. From a domestic standpoint, they are as liberal as you can get. But they value foreign policies (and another country) much more than whats happening here in the US. So they molded and shaped their way into anything or any party just to get their foreign policy agendas implemented ... which unfortunately they did. Again, I suggest that you go and read a bit about exactly what our two political parties are made of ... and maybe about their histories too. Good luck.

Reverse discrimination, now there's an original theme. Good work Mr. Buchanan. Now here's some real advice for all of you Republicans who want to keep your heads attached to your necks: Whatever you do make be sure it pleases Jabba the Limbaugh. I'd say you're stepping into to line very well, Mr. Buchanan.

Re: Ali Mogharabi: I've been listening to and reading Mr. Buchanan since long before the internet, perhaps even since before you were born. Just about all of my information about him comes from the man's own mind. He criticizes, yes, but then he goes and screws it up by yelling too much and failing to connect the dots. And he is terrified of Jabba. Sad but true. All who would call themselves Of The Party now are. Sad but true. Maybe Jabba's one of those democrats turned neocon who snuck his way in. Three divorces, dodging the draft, dipping into the drugs too much... Doesn't really fit the mold of right and the pure does he?
