I read Chuck's article and found it very interesting. And he is right, it shouldn't matter what Obama's religous convictions are, the fact that he believes is all that matters. True Christians stand true to God and Jesus, while most of the world curse them for every bad thing that happens in their lives. They say they don't believe in God, yet he is the first one they curse when something bad happens. What is that all about? And then there are the "James A. Sweeneys" of the world. Those who think money can give them what they need. How unfortunate they do not know someone such as me. I am one of the poorest people in America and yet, I am one of the happiest! I have all I need in my Lord and Savior and there is no amount of money that can give me the contentment and satisfaction that I receive from my belief in Him and God's Words as written in the Holy Bible. Real happiness is something that comes from an inner peace, not from things that can be purchased with money. Things fall apart and are put aside, so a claim that things and money make a person happy is a claim made by one who does not know true happiness. I wonder how quickly that person tires of the things he purchases and looses that happiness they origanally brought him? I am a free person and I do not sweat to make the richer person richer. I do what I do with no thought for the rich. I simply thank God that not everyone who has money feels as Mr. Sweeney does. I also wish to state, that a true Christian does not give only two days each week to God, we give him every day, 24/7. The most precious things in life cannot be put in anyone's pocket. Love is one of the most powerful things in anyone's life, even more powerful than gold, yet it cannot be put into a pocket. Contentment, happiness, satisfaction, joy, hope and love are all things one needs to survive, yet none of these things can be put into a pocket. These are feelings which give us reason to survive and continue on our quest. I am very glad that I know one day Jesus will return and I shall live forever with him and my friends and loved ones.

Thank you for the overview, Chuck. I suspect that Obama aims to counterfeit St Paul by aspiring to be "all things to all men" 1 Corinthians 9:22, to keep up his popularity, which will translate into votes in the future. If your president really does eschew the 'J' word, for reasons of popularity, pc-ness or both, then both he and everyone like him need to reflect carefully on the words of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. "For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels" Luke 9:26, KJB.

You couldn't be further offbase. First Benjamin Franklin, although deeply religous vigerously fought for seperation of church and state and deeply defended one's right to believe or not. Several others at the constitution convention including Read from South Carolina were athiets, as well as homosexuals, of which there were three. Read your History!!!! As far as Obama, he truly embraces the best ideas of Christianity. He doesn't have to announce it HE LIVES IT!! AS A TRUE BELIEVER DOES!!! What better way to improve humanity. Yor arrogance is truly apalling, and THANK YOU JESUS it's just ones person opinion. YOU ARE WRONG and should be ashamed of writing such an op-ed!

Sir;....Sure, this country is religious...Christianity gets a by...Judaism too, in recognition that protestantism is a branch of Judaism...But the real religion of this land is not practiced in a church or a temple, or any other place designated as religious... Our religion is capitalism, and to that god capital we bend our backs and bend our knees...How many have been harrassed to death or thrown in the penitentery because they denied to capital the place it deserves as our ascendent diety... That is our holy sprit: the spirit of free enterprise... And most wonderful of all, we can put the hocus pokus of our old religions behind us... No matter how hard we may have searched for our old God, we could never define It... But we can define capital... We can put capital in our pockets, and go to the poor house or the bank as our hearts incline us... And if we should reach for that capital, and try to sense beyond its mighty presence we find ourselves...I have a little capital in my pocket right now, and I can keep it to myself or share it with the world, but it is still me, all me, all about me...What would the world look like if I could convert it into dollars??? What If I could put my name on everything, like a Ford or a Rockefeller???What if I could put a price tag on everything worth having, and if it is too great to own, like fresh water, or fresh air, or sunshine, what if I could dump garbage into them to the point where to have them, they must be bought, and in small quantities???The world is full of me, me, me and endless possibility so long as I have capital me, in my pocket....You can push your puny Jesus to the store and back on wheels...
