by Mona Charen

In his book "The Enemy at Home," Dinesh D'Souza shows little patience with the leftists who reacted to 9/11 by declaring that America had it coming. And yet, his book is a variant on that theme. It was our cultural decadence, our foul popular movies, music and pornography, D'Souza argues, that enraged traditional Muslims worldwide and moved some to violence.

D'Souza is a thoughtful and interesting writer, and many of his observations about the cultural left worldwide, and par ...

Ma'am; ....Back when 911 occured, I was still going to church on a regular basis..The priest made the mistake of suggesting to the packed church that the chickens may have come home to roost, that we are the largest exporter of war material, and will not sign on to the chemical weapons ban, or the land mine treaty...Oh; we are a good people, but the world does not see us at our best, when we marry, or bury, or birth, or barbecue...They see the terrible faces of death, disease, war, and starvation, and sometimes they conclude that we are behind their misery... And some times, they are right, and we are wrong...But, would you believe that the reactionaries who run the American Catholic Church got a hold of the Bishop, and made that poor priest apologize, and beat his breast and say his mia culpas... For what??? For telling the truth??? Thou shall not bear false witness unless it is in your favor??? Lucky Jesus isn't on trial, or he'd be hanging high on earth while the flag waves high in heaven...I sort of faded away after that...I found a good place to practice my charity... The church must be getting by without my two mites...You know; a person can read a lot of history, and never find a society that did not die from the want of truth... People always assign some other cause of death, but it comes down always to the want of truth...People who cannot be honest about their societies, or what they do to surviive find their lives and their communities slowly wasted away, and all because the truth that might have freed them was beyond their reach... I pity the poor little studdering priest who has to swallow his words and suger coat the truth before daring to send it forth...For what??? To save us from reality one more day???Lead us not into truth, and deliver us from reality??? That's my kind of religion... Thanks....Sweeney
