How about some other quotes from our founding fathers:
“Belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man.” Thomas Paine
"Religions are all alike - founded upon fables and mythologies." - Thomas Jefferson
“Lighthouses are more helpful than Churches”, Benjamin Franklin

The article doesn't say that all people who had something to do with developing the U.S. were Christian. It says Christianity had a large influence. Over 50% of the signers of the Declaration of Independence had seminary degrees and were Preachers.
Also, if you refer back to the letters written by the leaders in that era, and see who influenced them and helped spark the revolution (even the non-Christian ones), you will also find a great number of Preachers and Reverends.
To have a tolerance on all types of people is a Christian influenced principle. By stating America as a "Christian Nation" isn't saying we are all Christian, but is saying that Christianity had a huge impact on the minds of the people who developed this country.

Re: Samuel
"To have a tolerance on all types of people is a Christian influenced principle."
You and I must have read a different bible, have a different view of history, and have a vastly different view of present day reality. The bible is rampant with intolerance and deadly consequences, the European witch trials and the crusades were among the most horrendous and murderous display of intolerance originating from Christian intolerance in recent human history. Modern day isn't that great either. Much of Muslim intolerance and racism originates with fundementslist Christianity. The same could be said for gay people. Atheists have it no better. All of this intolerance can clearly be shown to come from the Christian institution.
Christian tolerance? Maybe in some rare individual or progressive sects, but it's not a tenant I'd commonly associate with it. Don't take me word for it though. Enjoy your privileged position in society and keep inventing fake oppression complexes and false virtues.
