In the Fiscal War, AWOL Candidates

by Steve Chapman

For some time now, the three presidential candidates have been striving to outdo each other on what Hillary Clinton calls "the commander-in-chief" test. She says that she and John McCain have passed it. McCain's response has been on the order of, "What do you mean, 'we'?" Hi Steve I enjoyed your article and it pretty much hit the nail on the head. All the candidates are not addressing the reality of America today. They are all caught in their own little time warp. Can't they see that the American economy is in dire straights from main street in Cleveland to the investment firms on Wall Street? My analysis of the cause of this is that we have built our entire economy on the proposition that "Reckless gambling is the wave of the future." Just to make my point more clear, look at all the state governments which are proposing building casinos in order to rejuvenate their local economies. This is not just isolated. all over America, this is going on. What happened after Katrina? Their first move was to rebuild their casinos up and down the Gulf Coast. What really ticked me off one day was when I saw an elderly woman spend $135 on lottery tickets within the space of 5 minutes. Anyway, I noticed your label of Liberatarian next to your picture. Is there any possible Government fiscal policy which a Liberatarian would approve of except "Hands-off?"
