How Republicans Created Executive Branch Hegemony
by Paul Craig Roberts
Having made the mistake of confirming Michael Mukasey as U.S. attorney general, the Democrats again find their efforts to hold Republican government officials accountable for illegal and unethical behavior stonewalled by the Department of Justice (sic) and blocked by the Brownshirt tactics for which the Bush regime is now infamous.
White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers were found in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with subpoenas ...

I still have some respect for PCR, too. However, I have never come to regard GWB as the danger that he
sees. It seems to me that the administration is clearly correct in refusing Pelosi's request. If the executive
is equal to the legislative, then clearly the legislative cannot compel the executive to do anything. I certainly
do not agree with everything that the Justice Department does. I think Johnny Sutton should be prosecuted
himself. I find the imperial judiciary to be a far greater danger than a renegade JD. The fact that John Roberts
wants "consensus" (ie no dissenting opinions), in order to enhance the power of the supreme court, is far
worse than the JD ignoring a contempt of Congress claim.

I have tremendous respect for P.C. Roberts; for his humanity, intelligence and insight but I cannot understand why Mr. Roberts believes for one nanosecond the so-called democrats made 'a mistake' in confirming Mukasey. It was NOT a mistake; it was an absolutely knowing and deliberate choice.
There is only one real party with power in Washington and that is the "MONEY" party. The so-called dem-o-rats or repubocrats or whatever you want to call them are obviously the offence and defense of the same team; they are all neocons now. Anyone with an ounce of character or honor who has the least concern for the people, the constitution or the republic (that has been lost) is ignored, ridiculed, intimidated, sidelined or silenced.
How is it possible the American public can be persuaded that from a country of hundreds of millions of people, Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Barack Obama are the BEST people to lead the 'free world'? These corporate owned 'candidates' are foisted on the public as a form of theater for the masses while this 'government', 'administration' and 'election' are all total farce. Analyze the voting records; it's all there.

JMC. The fact that the three branches of government are supposed to be equal does not mean that each cannot have some authority over the other. If that were so, then nothing could ever be accomplished unless all three were in accord; just read the Constitution, or is that just so pre 9-11? Such logic as yours largely explains the dire straits our country finds itself in at present. Mr. Mukasey, like all Bush appointees, has his position because he is the classic kiss-up, kick down personality so beloved by all tyrants.
