Pat,
Usually don't consider responding to you as I am one of those liberals you usually berate. However, in a refreshing reversal of roles, I do have to agree with your insightful comments about liberals and the politics of race. I must point out, however, that racial politics are nothing new on this side of the aisle. The black community has long voiced hostility for Hispanics, Koreans, Jews, Indians and others they feel they have victimized them. The historical tension between blacks and members of these communities is firmly entrenched and cannot be denied. Its just never mentionned and when it is, no serious discussion ever seems to result. In short, blacks have not been held accountable for their own shortcomings. So, as Obama's success becomes a strong possibility, is it any wonder that these groups have begun to wonder or feel uneasy about how they will be treated by a political machine composed of his friends, relatives, cronies? I don't think so...seems not just natural but wise to me. Politics are not without context. Time for an open discussion. Thanks for your comments.
