Hoist on Their Own Petard

by Linda Chavez

Rod Blagojevich may look like one of the dim bulbs from Tony Soprano's Bada Bing, but the guy's a political genius. Who could imagine that a month after U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald signaled that the Illinois governor was about to be indicted for trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama's Senate seat, the man would not only remain un-indicted and un-impeached, but he'd manage to make the entire Democratic congressional leadership look like chumps? Ma'am;...Where exactly is the difficulty in making the democratic congressional leadership look like chumps??? The whole of the congress could easily look like chumps because that is what they is... Making you look intelligent might take some effort, but you can paint a dead horse any color you want...People too often forget in their admiration of people in authority that those people some times don't have much of character to recommend them... They want power...Who does not??? They want to get fat on the government dime... Who does not??? They want authority without accountability... Who does not??? They have what they have because they have abnormal needs for what almost all desire... They are driven; but what they are driven to possess demeans their whole existence... Those qualities each of us should desire: Equality, Justice, and liberty do not set any apart because they can only be enjoyed when shared... I have looked at many a grave stone and not once seen written that the man beneath was the common man's common man... WE seek distinction, and it makes us small.. We seek honors we do not deserve, and it steals our honor... We want power as individuals, and it weakens all around us... We are reaching the point where the medieval conception of the individual is being tested as never before, and proven false... We have children raising themselves, feeling no obligation to any one... WE have everyone on their own for their education, for their healthcare, for their incomes, and for their retirements... Why should they not look at government as something they should buy if they can afford it??? And why should government not always be for sale???Surely it is difficult to tell the chumps from the chimps...As both, they are a mockery of what government should be, and what true leadership should be: the reward of honor...If you could make of the congress a single man it would be Quasi Modo: The approximation of a man.... Thanks....Sweeney
