As a people, we are enamored with war as it seems to give us a more noble vision of ourselves, trapped as we are in an endless cycle of paychecks(though diminishing), going shopping and breaking out the old credit card when material aspirations outstride income as they are wont to do. Also, the not unimportant fact that someone else, damn sure not ourselves, will be laying their life on the line. This, all the more so, when our leader is a clearly intelligent and charasmatic individual. Perhaps, we seem to think, this time it will all come together, where bravery, technology and good old patriotism will blend into a wonderful shining moment and make us feel some purpose in our lives where once again, America acheives greatness on some far off battlefield, when in reality, battlefields are nothing but places where blood, organs, feces and flies provide the ambience. Once again, America, into the breach!

I don't think so, Senor Cockburn, but I must admit the stuff you write occupies nightmares many of us confront from time to time these days. Isn't it nice that you have a president who can actually understand what you are writing?
