Everything and Nothing

by Susan Estrich

Everything and nothing happened on Tuesday. I could have predicted that. Whoever "wins" says it means everything. Whoever "loses" says it means nothing. That's how off-off-year elections work. History supports both sides.

This time, the Republicans managed to claw at least a little bit of defeat from the jaws of victory with their act of self-destruction in New York-23. As everyone in the world now knows, a district that has been Republican since the Civil War is se ...

Actually Susan, a close to accurate assessment of this weeks results. There is one real issue driving these results, and you failed to mention it. Or, as Bill Clinton so accurately observed,"It's the economy, stupid!" Obama passed his stimulus pork bill on the words," With this bill, unemployment will not hit 8%." Well, unemployment has reached 10.2%, and shows no sign of getting better despite all the jobs "Created or saved ", by the White House. This is why independents are changing sides. Obama did inherit an economic mess, but one year later it is his mess now, and what he is doing is making it worse. Dramatically increasing the debt will soon come to haunt us with much higher interest rates and a lower dollar value, spiking inflation. His economic policy is Jimmy Carter on steroids. He has chosen the worst economic time to pass a debt laden health care reform bill. If he wants a public option allow insurance companies to compete across State lines and buy Blue Cross like he Bought GM. Then he could set whatever rates he wants, and drive out competition like the old time robber barons did in the nineteenth century. Who needs Congress; he can do that on his own.

Susan, Please do some research instead of quoting Democrat talking points regarding 23 District. Since 1857 when a Republican first held the seat the Dems have held it 20 times the Repubs 20 times and others 4 times. Prior to that date Dems 4 times No Repubs.

The game politicians play is not lost on those they purport to serve for none of them deserve the support of the American people.

Truest sign at Thursday's rallly "We are 12 months from fundamentallly changing Congress" You cannot ignore the voice of the people and ram through expensive plans and force our grandchildren and great grandchildren into bondage to pay for them and expect to be re-elected.
