Economic Security Is Only a Smile Away

Let's stop the whining. I mean it. It is ruining the country.

If we all stopped whining, the economy would recover, the banks would stop failing, the stock market would go up, the value of your home would rise and you could fill your gas tank for less than the cost of a diamond tiara.

OK, so maybe that last one is optimistic. But good things would happen.

And that is because almost all problems are mental.

Phil Gramm says so, and when it comes to mental, Phil Gramm ...

Evidently this column was intended as sarcasm, but its "real" message is buried so deeply in irony that I think a lot of readers will miss it...and come away thinking the columnist really believes he can get a $1/gallon off his gasoline just by smiling. Obviously he doesn't really think that...but it was hard at some points even for me to figure out what he was really trying to say. Is it a swipe at Phil Gramm? John McCain for associating himself with the man? Whining? Republicans in general? Who knows...
