Sir;...You might consider that people in the cities are more liberal because they must be, and that to share space with different people requires a liberal and tolerant character...And it may be nice for all those people living so far apart that they can shout for the world to kiss their butts and no one will take offense; but that is not most of us...You may think that just because you have your buns, and bullets, and beans that you don't owe the country nothing; but you would be wrong... The liberal people in the city buy the good rural life for the heartlanders, and those people ought to show some gratitude... Sure, the country could starve the city, but the city will eat... The fact is that the country councieves of itself as more moral, but the city is more moral because they have found the way to live together in peace, as we all should...So quit taking sides, and playing us against them...If you are a patriot; act like it...Thanks...Sweeney

Leave it to Mr. James A. Sweeney to completely miss the point, as usual.

For once, I find myself in complete agreement with Mr. Buchanan. Not only are fairness and equality not the same thing; they are mutually exclusive. The mindset that demands not just equal opportunity, but equal outcomes, has led to the dumbing down of academic standards in the name of "equality" and that great liberal mantra of "diversity." We're headed the way of the dystopian society depicted in Kurt Vonnegut's classic short story "Harrison Bergeron." For those not familiar with it, I suggest you read it.

Mr. Buchanan: I read this article in the Miami Herald at my breakfast table. I wanted to up-chuck! I have known for many years of our failing education system and it is getting more pityful every year. Seems we have grid-lock in our school system and no one seems to have a solution. I have 4 grown grandsons, 2 were home schooled to the seventh grade, and 2 went thru public schools and graduated from high school. The difference in their education levels is day & night, much to my regret. Our schools seem so poorly run and the reasons are beyond my comprehension, yet, they sop up more tax money each year. Some one of your standing maybe, just maybe, can build a fire under this system! Heaven help us...I sure don't know what to do. Mark E. Carswell,
