Don't Fall for Cap and Tax

by Phyllis Schlafly

Barack Obama promised that he wouldn't raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year. He neglected to mention that this tax exemption would go only to those who don't use electricity, gasoline, heating oil or natural gas.

The truth of the matter is that Obama will raise taxes on practically all middle-class Americans. But that's not all; in addition to new taxes on all those necessities (just think of all the appliances in your home that use electricity), he will drastically r ...

"Why not? Americans have built a free enterprise, private-property, rule-of-law, respect-for-contracts, innovation-receptive society that has enabled us to enjoy the highest standard of living in the world. We designed it by adoption of our unique and long-lasting U.S. Constitution, we worked for it and we paid for it. So, why can't we enjoy the fruits of our labor?" What a sad, unbending defense of willful ignorance that tirade is. If Wall Street hadn't crumbled by now it would have been touted as yet another example of that unstoppable American ingenuity. Until it wasn't. The whole thing is a stinking, rotten, worm eaten structure getting ready to tumble into dust. American "ingenuity" is about being born on third base and thinking we hit a triple. Slowly and painfully, that fantasy is being stripped away by the acid rain of reality. Think about it Schlafly. There are about 6.8 billion human beings blasting waste out of their behinds on this planet today. Have you ever gotten over that sheltered childhood notion that all that nasty stuff just disappears when the magic flusher whisks it away? It doesn't. You're eating it, breathing it, drinking it, touching it every day, all nicely homogenized with the other much more potent nasty garbage the mad producers of our mindless economy "whisk" away into the oceans, the atmosphere, the rivers, and the ground, as if all that crap is going to just disappear, too. Just ignore it all, Schlafly. Have your fantasy about how we earned it all and its ours. You're just going to die rich, happy, and utterly lost in pursuit of the good times now. Don't worry, be happy. Your grandkids, their grandkids, and theirs will pay the price. So much for the "conservative" values of the right wing.
