Did Bibi Box Obama in?
by Pat Buchanan
On Sept. 20, 2002, as the War Party was beating the drum for preventive war on Iraq, lest we wake up to "a mushroom cloud over an American city," The Wall Street Journal introduced an eminent voice to confirm that, yes, Saddam was driving straight for an atomic bomb.
"This is a dictator who is ... feverishly trying to acquire nuclear weapons," wrote Bibi Netanyahu, former prime minister of Israel.
"Saddam's nuclear program has changed. He no longer needs ...

Sir;... It is only a matter of time before everyone in the world has a nuclear weapon...I have one myself...It is called the truth, and many people will not touch it with a ten foot pole...And it is dangerous stuff...Too much of that in one place can go critical at any moment... I'll never know enough for that to happen... But if I was to stand in a phone booth, if there is such a thing some where on the planet, with some one who knew his own number everything could go poof, or boom, or joyjoy...I know one True thing... When some people talk they are lying... When only they know the truth, everyone else has to guess, and then it gets dangerous because people act on their suspicions...If the truth becomes some version of reality for which the official version is the least respected, then even the good we seek from government will be beyond our reach, along with the evil no one desires, and no one can correct until the edific falls of its own weight... And all these governments should fall, and it is not because they do not do some good, but because the good they do does not justify the danger they put the world and their own citizens in... The government of Israel should dare tell their citizens that they cannot rule the world, and must have peace on mutually satisfactory terms... Their war has grown to the point where it has strung us out all over the globe and wasted our army... We are all that much more closer to nuclear war because of them, and they do not care...They have an irrational feeling that they will survive, and come out on top...What fact in history proves otherwise??? If we feel that way by virtue of being Americans it is upon much less evidence.... And we are letting ourselves be humiliated for the benefit of Israel... If we are not the tail on that dog then we are their fools... And that is the truth... Thanks...Sweeney

Re: Elwood Anderson;...Sir,... Everyone tries to govern to the center... That is normal enough, but these parties have so divided the population, and everywhere denied the minority their voice that there is no center.. It is like that old Amos and Andy show where each was trying to palm off a facade on the other as a real house...The one stepped through the front door, and said: Short house! I'm already in the back yard!!!... If these politicians step out of their base they are consorting with the enemy... Step out of the left, and suddenly you are right...Step out of the right, and suddenly you are a communist... This is the world they have made for themselves of extremes, and extremists...I would shed a bitter tear for them if I did not see how clearly their actions have injured this country... Look at them take us to war on the power of lies, and then look for consensus....Isn't consensus what should be found before war is fought??? Consensus would have shown better sense than our leaders, and that is the last thing our leaders wish, and that is why we have no democracy, and why nothing but personalities and parties are laid before the choice of the people... They will not let us vote on anything excepting state or local issues of little account...They do not want us to get any ideas about self government....Thanks...Sweeney

"That war has cost 4,500 American dead and 35,000 wounded. It has brought death to perhaps a hundred thousand Iraqis. Four million people have been driven from their homes, 2 million, including half the Christians, into exile. Hundreds of thousands of fatherless Iraqi children are being raised by women widowed by that war." We should be shouting out these statistics from every roof top in the nation, and Cheney and Bush should rot in jail for the rest of their comfy, military service-dodging lives for this wholesale crushing of humanity. Of course, you will never go that far, Mr. Buchanan, because Jabba would punish. But just the same, in one of those a rare moments of burning insight you occasionally stumble into, you've hit a home run with this column.

I believe the shine will wear off Obama sooner than most people think. He appears to be all hat and no cattle. He has caved to the generals, caved to the bankers, and now appears to be caving to the insurance companies on health care. He has started the cave to the Israel lobby by accepting a one year limit on attempts to negotiate with Iran and by packing his Middle East policy team with AIPAC sympathizers, just as he packed his economic team with bankers that were involved with the meltdown. His foreign policy, war policy, and position on the so-called war on terror threat and security are not really much different from what existed at the end of the Bush administration. He has the gift of spinning his policies so they sound reasonable, but that really is not solving anything. It's just a change in the packaging. We'll give him a full term to judge his actions, not his words.
